I'm just an old school player who has quit RAN PH a long time ago. I just thought I'd visit my old character and recently installed RAN on my Windows 7 64 bit PC. To my dismay, I was getting an error which I do not think that the devs has found a workaround yet. A known issue for 64 bit users who wants to play RAN. I browsed the forums but I did not see any solution which worked including launching the game from the web using IE and using the old RAN launcher.
I am now posting the solution which worked for me to help those who are having the same issue. The solution is below:
Click the run button and open the Control Panel
Browse to the section of System Maintenance then to the System
At the left side, select Advanced System Settings link
In the System Properties Window the top section is named as Performance with the Settings button. Click this button.
Choose the Data Execution Prevention tab.
Select the option which reads Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.
Use the Browse button to locate the executable files in your RAN folder (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Games\Ran Online) and click Open to add it to your exceptions list.
Click Apply or OK to commit your changes.
Make sure you include the executable files named game
to the list. Do not include the uninstall
to the exception list.
You should now be able to login to RAN in your win7 64 bit system. If anyone would like to create a neater version of this solution will be most welcomed. The goal here is to help others and not take any credits or anything for this solution.
I may not be online again for another few years so comments and rants or any violent reactions will get nowhere.
